We lost a huge icon yesterday at the hands of bacterial meningitis. He was 78.

Rest in power, Jeff Beck.

I loved his work with the Yardbirds, and I always admired his talent, but truthfully a lot of his solo stuff didn't do too much for me. Still a great musician and a sad loss.

Walked into a supermarket at 6AM and read this as the headline on a newspaper. Very sad and unexpected news.

Of all the recent losses, this one really hits.

Very few guitarists are truly recognizable after playing just a few notes. Jeff was one of them.

Back in the day, 1968’s “Truth” was considered the embryonic blueprint for what became metal. An outstanding heavy blues album that sounds great today.
And his fusion albums of the mid 70s are sublime.

That sucks. I guess it was bound to happen, but still, 78. Damn. That's my dad's age.

One of the most innovative and talented guitarists the world has known.

I'm afraid for what the next few years will bring.

Ian Anderson, McCartney, Jagger, Richards, Page, etc., are all in the upper 70s.

Only thing I knew him for was playing guitar on Imogen Heap's "Goodnight and Go". It was a pretty cool guitar part, though. RIP.

Another Yardbirds guitarist apparently left us this week, Anthony 'Top' Topham (age 75). Surprising since he was the youngest of the original lineup.
