Into these two bands a bit lately.

I feel that Summon are almost constantly overlooked.

Many other fans?

Fan of both, Usurper since the threshold of the usurper ep… been over a quarter of a century now. Wow! Summon I got into through Baptism of Fire so 24 years ago on that one… ugh I feel old! Fallen was great too but I prefer Baptism. Usurper’s fav album for me is Necronemesis despite the thin production. The vocals were crazy. Wasn’t really able to get into their latest material.

Baptized by Fire is such a ripper of an album. Riffs for days and totally unhinged tempos

First got into Usurper when they released Skeletal Season, wicked album and my favourite but everything with General Diabolical Slaughter on vokills kicks ass. The other album I bought around then was Warhammer - The Winter of Our Discontent. Thanks to Emp enthusiastically mentioning Usurper a lot in the Now Playing thread I've recently been getting into both bands again after a long break.

This is the first time I've checked out Summon, definitely like what I'm hearing.

I very much hope there will be a vinyl edition of Summon's "No thoughts from the sky" one day, that EP is superb. Furthermore, I hope the original artwork will remain intact and won't be messed with or get replaced.

Masochist was awesome too. I should really go back and grab the albums I don’t have. Summon never made anything that wasn’t quality.

I think those have some of the most unique yet heavy productions. They were so unique despite the clear CF influence.

I don't think their albums are that easy to find unfortunately.

True. I thought Moribund Recs had put out a Masochist comp but maybe I dreamt that. Ordering from them is pretty pricy and annoying nowadays as they refuse to modernize to a more convenient online system.

That comp is still around, and Fallen. Other Summon stuff is tricky to source though.

I love Fallen, such a mean sounding album. Have 1 Usurper album which is fine, but not super into them.

Usurper is really a monumental band - they take the old Celtic Frost thing and go nuts with it. A lot of their albums just have the hairiest, most savage guitar sounds and the riffs match it with this great ferocity and dark, alchemical power, somehow rising above the meat and potatoes style and becoming something really great. Diabolosis is wonderfully arcane and Twilight Dominion's like if you mixed CF with old Maiden and Priest sensibilities, just killer. I didn't really like the most recent one they did though.

Summon... never even heard of them before this. Seeing them compared to Usurper is certainly intriguing. Playing their first album now.

Edit... sounds like some nice lo-fi, filthy black metal. Pretty cool.

Apparently all their stuff's on here: https://summon6.bandcamp.com/album/dark ... llen-souls

Wow, the Baptized by Fire album sounds really amped up in comparison; fucking cool.

Sorry i wasn't really comparing them. Just two bands i've been into lately that i don't see talked about much.

I thought it was a bummer that Fallen was Summon’s swan song. The band got a lot more attention and kinda “broke through” in metal media with great reviews. They added a lot more thrash into their sound as you can tell from the evolution album to album…too bad they didn’t capitalize on that momentum.

Metal Lust got me into Usurper and Summon because of Sacred Nothing.

Both awesome as fuck bands. Wish Summon were still around

I was on a LAN playing all sorts of games and downloaded a mp3 sampler from a friend. It featured a song by Usurper, think it was Slavehammer. Was probably the Necropolis Records - Distribution Sampler. Later ordered Threshold of the Usurper, which was my first death metal CD. Still gold to this day.

Ah that's the one that's not like any of their others. I do think it kills though.
